The unit provides power generation by converting the energy of the sun without the need and expense of trenching for utility power. The sealed, deep-cycle batteries enclosed provides extended life for solar applications.

The schedule 40 4.5" aluminum supporting structure is easily setup and is corrosion resistant for the most severe weather conditions. This unit is practically maintenance-free and comes pre-wired for minimum setup time and installation.

  • Q: Is there a software available that will allow me to view and record the images from my PTZ camera?
  • A: Yes, If you would like to see all the camera in one screen and record the images as needed, then a Licensed version of the recording software is available called the Sony Real Shot Manager which can be purchased directly from us in 4 channel increments

  • Q: Our areas is very hot and humid, will this dome camera be able to handle this weather?
  • A: YES, We use a marine dome that has a ventilated outer layer, and vapour capsules are placed inside the dome to prevent humidity from building up.

  • Q: Can this camera see in the dark?
  • A: This camera dollar for dollar compared to the other units on the market with IR lighting will give you a better picture. This camera has been researched to provide the best possibly picture in the worst lighting conditions without IR LEDs, the ambient light from the moon and stars along with the low LUX rating of this camera will give you excellent picture quality, let us prove it to you E-mail us for the link to the Solar powered camera demo, and see for yourself. The camera is located on a rural stretch of road, with minimal lighting near the camera, when the camera is moved into the darkest area you still get an excellent picture.
  • Q: Is it dark or is there extra lights just for the demo?
  • A: There are a few lights on, but they are at a distance, there is nothing close to the camera and yes it’s DARK!

  • Q: What frequency are the Transmitters and receivers on?
  • A: We use a powerful 900 MHz transmitters and receivers, so powerful that they allow NON-LOS and just under the maximum for not needing a license and as long as there is not a mountain in between the transmitter and the receiver and the camera is within the specified distance you should not have a problem, with that being said LOS is the best possible transmission.

  • Q: I have heard that 900 MHz is a "Dirty, Noisy channel" won't there be too much interference?
  • A: At one time the 900 MHz was a noisy channel but since technology progression just about the only thing left using 900 MHz are the old cordless phones and they do not have enough wattage to cause interference.

  • Q: How many Wireless IP Solar Powered Surveillance Cameras can I use in one area?
  • A: You can use a total of 12 of our Wireless IP Solar Powered Surveillance Cameras at a single location, they are configured via DIP switches and tie into your existing Network and can be accessed through A Internet Explorer, please make sure you have enough bandwidth to accept all the cameras video feed.

  • Q: What is a Patch cable and why do I need a longer one, doesn't the camera come with the necessary cables?
  • A: A 3' patch cable runs from the Antenna to the receiver on the recording / observation end of the system, you do not need a longer cable but we have had many requests for a longer cable. The receiver is in a weather proof enclosure allowing it to be mounted within 3' of the antenna outdoors, this will allow for the best signal to be received, however if your distance from the Transmitter at the Cameras end and the Receiver at the recording / observation end is not stretched to the maximum you may use a longer patch cable allowing you to place the receiver inside the building where it may be more accessible to you. The 3' patch cable and all other necessary cabling come with the camera unit. The camera unit is pre-assembled as much as possible so there is very limited set up on your end once you receive the camera unit.

  • Q: My base receiver show the following Link quality lights lit up: 2 Green, 2 Yellow and 2 Red... Am I getting a good signal?
  • A: Yes, this is the optimal signal strength, if one of these lights is not lit, please re-adjust your antenna so that you get all of them lit up

  • Q: My Wireless Solar powered Camera cannot connect with the Sony Real Shot Software...Light #6 - AW900- Processing data is not lit...How do I establish a connection?
  • A: Please disconnect the network cable which is attached to the base receiver (the one on your building etc..) from the HUB / network connection, connect it to a laptop (this saves you from driving out to the cameras site), load the Sony Real Shot manager, and configure the cameras IP, once the cameras IP is configured, connect the network cable from the base receiver back into the HUB / network.

  • Q: What type of encryption does the wireless Transmitter / Receiver offer, should I be worried about the signal from the cameras transmitter to the receiver getting hi-jacked?
  • A: The matched radio pair use 128 bit encryption keys, the partner radio is programmed with the same key which allows the encryption / decryption of the data stream allowing a fully secure radio link, a point to point transfer that cannot be hi-jacked and there is no other equipment or software to buy.

  • Q: How the heck do you line up the TX and RX when your 20 miles apart?
  • A: Well, a whole lot of string...just can use several available online maps like Live local, or Virtual earth, or use a regular map. Mark on the map where your camera will be located and where the receiver will be located, draw a line and use your compass, and line up the antennas or use GPS coordinates and the mentioned maping. You will be able to do some fine tweaking to get the best signal...the other option is...more string...:)

  • Q: Do I have the option of running my Wireless Solar Camera on a closed network off the grid?
  • A: Absolutely, if you have a closed network, you would connect the cameras just the same way, you just won’t be able to access them over the internet, they will only be viewable on your LAN.

  • Q: How does the system work without an IP address or MAC address?
  • A: The bridge has no MAC address, no IP address and no web interface. The user receives feedback on the link performance and operating conditions from 16 status LEDs on both end points. It is the simplest wireless Ethernet solution possible and does not require the selection of channels, IP addresses, Encryption keys or SSIDs. The product is fully automatic and has the built-in intelligence to make for easy installation.

  • Q: Does the TX / RX include network-based management tools?
  • A: The radios have built-in intelligent frequency agility. Upon detection of RF interference, the radio link automatically changes to a quieter channel. Detection of RF interference is based on continuously monitoring of the Bit Error Rate of the wirelessly transported packets. Channel selection feedback loop running, the radio is able to always optimize the link without user intervention.
    During installation we encourage testing of the radio link by using site survey mode (DIP 4 ON). This testing will ensure that the radio has found channel(s) that achieve a low BER. Once the link is tested, the user can turn off DIP 4 and allow the link run autonomously. The user then can ping a client device on the other side of the link to ensure the radio is in continual operational.

  • Q: How do I optimize the performance of my network camera installation?
  • A: Use large Ethernet packets because small packets choke a wireless links with packet handling overhead.
    We recommend using TCP protocol rather than UDP protocol because UDP typically fragments the digital video data into numerous tiny Ethernet packets where as TCP typically uses large packets.
    The handling of each packet (tiny or large) requires the wireless link to: buffer, encrypt, transmit, synchronize, receive, decrypt, check for bad bits, prepare request for retransmission of bad bits, encrypt, transmit synchronize, receive, decrypt, prepare the retransmitted bits, encrypt, transmit, synchronize, receive, decrypt, prepare acknowledgment that packet is successful, transmit, synchronize, receive, and decrypt.
    An example - when transmitting 100Kbytes/second as 10,000, 10 byte packets requires much more overhead than transmitting the same 100Kbps as 66, 1,500 byte packets. In this example, 20,000 less synchronizations per second are required when sending the data in large packets.
    Use high quality MPEG4 or H.264 cameras as this newer compression technology provides for maximum data efficiency. This digital video compression technology generally provides higher frame rate and superior image quality than older MJPEG compression technology.
    Set the camera to a fixed data rate of approx 768kbps. This will leave some data rate available for retransmissions of corrupted packets. Disable automatic data rate sensing as the TCP acknowledgements will allow the camera know the uptake rate of the video feed. The TCP protocol allows the camera to know if packets are successfully arriving at their destination and will typically heal itself if there is insufficient data capacity due to a bottleneck elsewhere in the system.

  • Q: What is the operating temperature range of the radios?
  • A: Our radios are designed for rugged conditions across -40C to +70C (exterior case temperature). Installations that have extreme solar gain should utilize a solar shield to ensure the case temperature does not exceed 70C.

  • Q: How do I use the Site Survey Mode to fine tune the radio performance?
  • A: Radio noise is always a challenge for any wireless systems, particularly those in unlicensed bands. Our radio has a built in site survey mode that allows the installer to manually select any of the channels and evaluate the link performance by reading the LED link quality display. This mode sends simulated Ethernet traffic over the radio link and reports the bit error rate (BER). This can be used to assist in the alignment of antennas or to determine if there are in band or adjacent band interferers. The link performance may show reduced link quality on specific channels that have high noise levels. Under normal operation the units automatically choose a channel with Strong link quality and will depart channels that have poor link quality.

  • Q: How do I manually configure the frequency?
  • A: To restrict the operation of the to a subset of the 902-928 band, the user may activate a manual selection mode that allows the radio to automatically choose the best channel within a grouped subset of the 12 available channels. This is enabled by the 8 position DIP switch on the master unit. These settings allow the AW900 to operate on the optimal channel in one of three subsets, LOW 4, MID 4 or HIGH 4. The DIP switch setting are:

  • LOW: 4 - 1,2,3 or 4 / 2 On, 3 Off / 902-910 MHz
  • MID: 4 - 5,6,7 or 8 / 2 Off, 3 On / 910-918 MHz

Site survey mode (DIP switch 4 - default is OFF for normal operation)
In this mode the TX /RX can perform a site survey. With this mode activated the radios send and receive at 100% capacity by transceiving self-generated simulated data. The installer can monitor the Link Quality display to assess channel quality while optimizing antennae orientation. The installer can manually select each channel to evaluate performance and identify the best channels for operation. By identifying channels with poor performance it is possible to identify possible interferers and use “manual frequency selection mode” to avoid portions of the band or select a fixed operating frequency. Important note: Ethernet traffic does not get transported while the radios are in this mode.

  • Q: What equipment is on the receiving end of my Wireless Solar Powered CCTV surveillance camera, and what else do I need to purchase?
  • A: From the antenna there is a 1 1/2 ft cable that connects to the Receiver (25' max), from there a 25' cable (supplied) runs to the POE injector, from there you will need to supply your own RJ45 Ethernet cable (max 300') to connect to your network.

  • Q: Can I connect the RJ45 cable from the Receiver to a wireless router / hub?
  • A: Yes
